Resmål DBS Viking Tour - The Vikings have made it!7 Aug, 2005 The Vikings have made it!
We are now recovering from the Norwegian mountains and licking our wounds. We started with about 110 prospects too be a Viking and almost everybody became one. Only a couple had to get “Did Not Finish” in the list.
We give our great “Thank you” to Geir that had a vision and he made it come true.
We have seen the Fjords and The Mountains in Norway and wish that we can get back next year and once again be a Viking.
The Thursday ride up Dalsnibba on a gravelroad was a real challenge for the mind and body. Per had a cold and could not keep up with the front riders and feel thru the peleton after a heroic ride in front. Per has only 39-23 as granny gear!!
And he had a very, very slow cadence like Gontchar. Boine kept up with his new friends and gave theme something to think about with his good ride up Dalsnibba.
Anna and Billy were as usual having a nice ride and kept there places in GC.
David was as usual getting one more ride thru Twilight zone and was looking on the other side, but it was to hot where he was going….
He came up Dalsnibba and could once again make a sprint for the line. After that he just was towed down to Geiranger by the Swedish mixed team from Ö-vik otherwise He would still be on the mountain licking the saddle soar from the first stage. It is now red and has the size of a square inch.
Friday started with rain in Geiranger and as we tried to sleep in the tent made by The red cross the thought of riding the Eagle way up in rain and after that go on a ferry and getting cold before riding thru Gudbrandsdalen was not uplifting for the mind.
David with his bad ass in every perspective after saddle soar and Beans was having second thoughts about DNF. David was once again getting in to the Twilight zone and kept on pushing the legs on 39-27 and the mind too never get out off Stage races if you are not DEAD.
David sprinted over the line after a long journey thru Gudbrandsdalen alone, but with a lot of photos from the wonderful Norwegian nature.
Per had as usual eating a lot and started on a fresh day with a new set of legs. The cold was not in his mind and the race was on!!!
Boine and Anna road a good race and could keep their places in GC.
Billy had a little dip, but was still alive after the finish line.
The Team Velo.se have had a great ride and Anna got the Leader shirt and overall in Women 20-39. Boine became third in Men 40-49.
Billy and Per was riding good races, but both had one tough day that where bad in GC.
David had a flat on tubular after 1km the first day and blow up the tubular, legs and mind in that order… He had a ride thru the Twilight zone and came out one the other side of Trollstien as a T…l with gaining one kilo and a new tail…
Our soigneur Joakim was trying too check on David down the mountain for a while and at the same time giving the other four assistance with clothes for the decent downhill.
Joakim was cooking, putting down the camp, riding the bus and looking at Norwegian piker. He was the only one thinking about sex all other where busy thinking about food, resting, drinking, crapping, biking and bodies(our own)…
We have made a lot of new friends both old professionals and everyday commuters. We have a new way of thinking about riding uphill after ascending 9000 meters in four days.
Everyday after finish line we had a “sweet case” with chocolate, winegums, beer, sodas, cookies, peanuts, Baileys and much more when the feeding search started.
David was not allowed too eat beans after two days since “Das Gaswerk” was working day and night. But there where no mosquitos around….
This is a race thru a postcard with flares from heaven and hell.
Everybody with an interest of a wonderful nature and a challenge for body and mind.
Get your ass of the sofa and start training for next years Vikingtour.
You need it, I know!
Because I was there and I made it!!!
Photos will come in a couple of days..
Best Regards David/ Team velo.se
